— Walter Clifford Grant, 84, of Glens Falls, passed away December 3, 2018 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Argyle, on June 30, 1934 he was the son of the late George and Nellie (Jones) Grant.
After graduating from Argyle High School, Walter enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country proudly from 1953 to 1957 as a Medic.
Walter continued to provide for others after he was honorably discharged by working for the NYS Department of Health and driving an ambulance. Later, he worked for BASF in Rensselaer NY
as a Boiler Engineer until he retired.
On November 30, 1957 Walter married Shirley Mary Maranville at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.
Together they raised four children, taking time to go on many camping trips. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood working and yard work at home. Above all, he enjoyed time spent with his family. The holidays, Christmas particularly, were very special to him.
Survivors
In addition to his parents; Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley, in 2001; two grandsons, Michael Joseph Grant and Wayland Jesse Grant; his three brothers, Frederick, Vernon and Gary Grant; three sisters, Shirley Liburdy, Patricia Matraw, and Harriette Grant; and three brothers-in law, Marvin Maranville, James Caldwell and Gordon Strong.
Those left to cherish his memory are his four children, sons, Matthew B. (Nancy) Grant, Mark A. (April) Grant, John P. Grant (Fiancé Angela Gitto) and daughter, Terrie M. (John) Grant-Fox; three grandchildren, Nicole (Brian) Adolfi, Joshua Grant (Fiancé Vallie) and Ashley (Mike) Marchese, Devon Ingram, Kristen and Haleigh Condon in addition to great grandchildren that include Sophia and Anthony Adolfi and Peyton and Nolan Grant; his brother, Gordon (Jean) Grant;,along with several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours took place Wednesday, December 5, from 4 to 6 pm at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804. A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, December 6, at 12 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Glens Falls.
A graveside service for Walter Clifford Grant, with military honors, immediately followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Glens Falls.
