Tommy Morton Newlin

Pasadena, Texas – Tommy Morton Newlin, a long time Pasadena resident, passed away at the age of 85 on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. He was born in Robinson, Illinois on November 7, 1937, to Elias Newlin and Velma (Morris) Newlin Moores.

After his family settled in Pasadena Texas, he attended Pasadena High School, graduating in 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce (Reich) Newlin, in 1957. They were together for the next 65 years, raising two sons along the way.

Tommy was always very active in the Pasadena community, including all youth sports as a coach, league officer, and purchasing agent. He was a 46 year member and an Honorary Life Director with the Pasadena Rodeo Association. For many years, he was involved with the San Jacinto College Ravens Scholarship Booster Club. He also enjoyed getting involved with several local political campaigns over the years, and could frequently be seen helping out at a polling station on election day. He went above and beyond to help family and friends, and he always wanted to do what was right to lend a helping hand when someone was in need.

Tommy built a long, successful career as a construction cost estimator and retired in 2014 after more than 25 years with KBR/Brown and Root.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, his only sister Rebecca Robinson, and his stepfather Bishop Moores. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and their two sons, Keith (Jo) and Toby (Robin), grandchildren Max Newlin (Jessica) and Erin Amaro (Hugo), great-grandchildren Emma Amaro, Evan Amaro, and Josie Newlin, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends and neighbors.
