Sheila H Carr

Danby, VT – Sheila H Carr, 78, a long time resident of Danby, VT, passed away November 27, 2022 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Sheila was born in Toledo, Ohio on July 16, 1944, the daughter of Dr. James and Mrs. Virginia Hannon.

Sheila attended St. Ursula Academy in Toledo and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Toledo University.

Sheila was a loving partner, supportive mother and entrepreneur who had a spirit that was contagious that easily spread through a room. Sheila and her husband and soulmate, Jack, owned and operated The Danby Market for 16 years. She also started The Dime Store in Millbrook NY, had an antique center in her home and was always supportive of any new venture a friend or family member wanted to start.

Sheila was the Treasurer for the Danby/Mt. Tabor Fire District for 20 years!

She loved acting and in her earlier years was quite an accomplished actress. She spent several summers on Mackinac Island entertaining guests as she sang the latest show tunes of the day. She loved the theater, singing, gardening and was an artistic decorator. She was often at her happiest telling stories about her childhood and her relatives. Her Irish roots, expressiveness and red hair always added color to the wonderful stories she would tell. She enjoyed listening to music and watching musicals. She was always known for putting on a fun record and getting everyone to dance. She was a great dance teacher to anyone in the room that wanted to participate.

Her grandchildren were definitely one of the most important things in her life, and she always welcomed any opportunity to sit and talk with them. She loved watching movies with them, and camping in her motorhome with them, especially at Christmastime.

Sheila is survived by her children John Carr (Cindy Roach) of Lake George, NY, James Carr (Pamela Haggerty) of Wellesley, Massachusetts and Jennifer Redmond (Brian) of Manchester Village, and grandchildren who were the love of her life, Matthew, Catie, Abigail, Thomas, Christin, Emily, Lydia and Jack, along with her great-grandchild Sebastian.

She was preceded in death by her husband and lifelong friend Jack Carr, who passed away in 1994 and her loving and always caring brother James Hannon of Cleveland, Ohio.
