Joseph J Maccioli Sr

Joseph R. Maccioli Sr., 75, a resident of Gore Road, Bennington, and Palm Coast, FL, died Thursday, Nov 10, 2016 at Albany Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Born in Malden, MA on June 1, 1941, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Annie E. (Sawyer) Maccioli. He received his education in the Malden, MA schools.

Joe married the former Melva D. Penney on May 14, 1960 in Revere, MA.

In early years Joe belonged to Local 7 Iron Workers Union in Boston, MA and was employed for many years with Baldwin Steel, Wilmington, MA and Lane Construction. After moving to Bennington in 1972 Joe opened West Main Chevron, now the site of Hemmings News, for many years prior to establishing J & T Trucking Company which he continued to operate until the time of his illness.

Joe enjoyed time spent with his little Shih-Tzu dogs, Molly and Tyler and also going to the two camps that he owned on the County Road in Pownal. He was an avid hunter, a NASCAR enthusiast and a devout fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Joe and Melva have spent the winter months at their home in Florida for several years where Joe enjoyed boating and fishing.

He was a member of Bennington Elks Lodge 567 and Bennington Moose Lodge 1223.

Survivors include his wife, Melva Maccioli, three children and their spouses, Deborah (Larry) Corbin, Joseph R. (Heidi) Maccioli Jr. and Laurie (Larry) Andrews, all of Bennington; five grandchildren, Joseph R. III, Nicole, Shelbie, Micah and Konnor; two step-grandchildren, Sophia and Naomi and three great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Christopher Lombardi of Chelmsford, MA and Diane & Ken Lurvey of Concord, NH; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Kathy Maccioli of Bennington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe was predeceased by a sister and brother, Carolyn and Robert Maccioli.

The funeral will be held from the Harvest Christian Ministries Church, 945 Main Street, Bennington on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Linda Lebert officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
