— Joanne C. Harrington, 76, a resident of Park Street, passed away December 9, 2018 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Joanne was born in Troy, NY on July 30, 1942 the daughter of the late Richard F. Palmateer, Sr and Catherine G. Cronin. She attended grade school in Petersburg, NY and graduated from Berlin Central/Hoosick Falls High School.
Joanne worked as a cashier and trainer for Grand Union for 25 years. She was also a bookkeeper for Grand Union and for other area businesses. She previously worked as a hairdresser upon graduating from the Troy School of Beauty Culture.
Joanne C Harrington was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Quilters Guild and Publicity Chairperson for the Quilt Fest. Joanne enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and sewing. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and Licensed Foster Parent. Joanne did a lot of knitting for her church, including hats and mittens for the food shelf. She enjoyed playing cards and cherished times spent with her family.
Joanne C Harrington is survived by her children Raymond G. Harrington and his wife Vicky of Woodford, VT, Renee Harrington of Manchester, VT, Kevin S. Harrington of Hudson Falls, NY and Melissa Scheffler of Bennington, step-children Mary George and her husband Keith of Richmond, VT, Mark Harrington of Woodford, VT and Dawn Smith of Bennington, adopted children Rachel Tift and her husband Colby of Pownal and Amanda Harrington of Iowa, brother Richard F. Palmateer, Jr and his wife Paula of Tuscan, AZ, her sister Barbara Wilson of Tennessee 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Harrington whom she married in Bennington on October 26, 1974. Mr. Harrington passed away June 7, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Michele Harrington-Blount who died in 2000, grandchild Ashley Bessette who died in 1984 in addition to Christine Lapp who died in 2002 and Grace Andrews who died in 2016.
A mass of christian death and burial for Joanne C Harrington will be celebrated Monday December 17, 2018 at 10am at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the family lot in Albany Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Sunday December 16, 2018 from 2-5pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT.
