Howard Russell Woodworth

Sonoma, Nevada – Howard Russell Woodworth passed away on November 11, 2022, at the age of 85. He was born on October 20, 1937, in Woodland, California to Robert Alonzo and Alta Mae Woodworth.

Howard enlisted in the Army National Guard during his junior year of high school. Upon his graduation the following year, he started his career. He served 22 ½ years and retired as an E-8. He mostly worked as a mechanic and welder during his National Guard career, he also took this skill to many farms and mines throughout Northern Nevada.

Howard married the love of his life, Judy Melvina Munro on February 15, 1969. The two have been married for 53 years. They shared 2 children and many cherished memories. The family has lived in many places across Northern Nevada; Dayton, Yerington, Orovada, Ruby Valley, McDermitt, Winnemucca, Gardnerville, and Ely to name a few.

Howard was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served his church as a teacher, Sunday School President, Clerk, Branch President, High Councilman, Missionary. He was not only a pivotal member of his church but also his community. Howard was a Boy Scout Leader, Scout Master, Leadership Trainer, and District Committee Chairman; he volunteered with the Boy Scouts for 48 years.

Howard enjoyed gardening, rock collecting, storytelling, spending time with family, woodworking, camping, fishing, hunting, and reading.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Melvina Munro Woodworth; his children, Russell Eugene Woodworth and Sara Adele Woodworth Jeffries; his grandchildren, Melissa Lee (Allen) Woodworth Ruedinger, Melinda Marie Melvina (Randall) Jeffries Stark, Samantha Mae Jeffries, Nathan Eugene Jeffries, and Brian Nicholas Woodworth; and his great-grandchildren, Aubree Stark and Ellis Ruedlinger. He is also survived by his siblings, Everett Marlin (Marie) Woodworth, Robert Loren Woodworth, Gordon Wayne Woodworth, Ronald Lane Woodworth, Ruth Darlene Woodworth McGarr, and Kathleen Elaine Woodworth Gaskill as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Alonzo Woodworth and Alta Mae Duncan Woodworth; his sister, Barbara Louise Nichols, his grandchildren, Sean Michael Woodworth and Travis Ty Jeffries and a nephew, Michael Robin Baderstsher.

Funeral Services for Howard Woodworth will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, at the Orovada Community Center. Viewing at 10:30 am, Funeral at 11:00 am with graveside services to follow at the Orovada Cemetery.
