North Greenbush, NY – Virginia C. (Krogh) Gummer, 93, a lifelong resident of Brunswick, died peacefully Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Greenbush following a short illness.
Born in Troy, August 26, 1929, Virginia was the daughter of the late George J. and Ethel M. (Smith) Krogh and, for over 71 years, the wife of Kenneth E. Gummer, who predeceased her December 30, 2021.
Virginia attended the Haynersville District School and was a graduate of Troy High School.
After her marriage to Ken on October 8, 1950, the couple established their home in Brunswick and raised three children. She was elected to the position of Receiver of Taxes for the Town of Brunswick. After holding that position for many years, she retired in 1992.
Virginia was a member, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher at the Brunswick Church for many years and took great pride in decorating the church altar with flowers she grew in her garden. Her flower gardens were an attraction for many. She was an outstanding seamstress and made many of her children’s clothing, her daughter’s wedding gown, and many of the matching outfits and costumes she and Ken would wear, as they enjoyed their long time hobby of square dancing. For over 27 years, Virginia enjoyed being a snowbird with Ken to their winter home in Estero, FL and was a charter member of the Corkscrew Woodlands Butterfly Garden.
Virginia is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law and a son, Linda and Rick Hall of Basking Ridge, NJ, Edward Gummer of Eagle Mills, and Nancy and Walter DeBell of Troy, a sister-in-law, Beryl Krogh of Haynersville, five grandsons, Kyle Sevits of Rochester, MN, Joshua Sevits of Montpelier, VT, Kenneth Gummer of Climax, MI, David Gummer of Johnsonville, and Christopher Gummer of Ballston Spa, six great-grandchildren, Isaac, Ali, Nicolas, David Jr., Katerina, and Carson, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters and a brother, the late Dorothy Bulson, Eleanor Calhoun, and Howard Krogh.
Family and friends are invited to call on November 12, 2022, from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane, located in Brunswick. A memorial service for Virginia will be held at noon, followed by a committal ceremony at Brookside Cemetery, directly behind the church. All are welcome to attend a reception following the graveside service at the church’s fellowship area.
