Shelbourne, VT – Elizabeth A Amundsen, 94, of Shelbourne, VT, formerly of Kingston, NY, died Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at UVM Medical Center.

Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Charles & Mary Lent Alecca. She took pride in her home, family and friends. Betty was an inspirational woman with a kind heart and open mind. Selfless and caring with those she loved.

Betty is survived by her son Craig C. Amundsen of Burlington, VT, her granddaughter, Rachel S. Amundsen and her partner, Austin Whitehill of Burlington, VT, three siblings, Charles Alecca of Kingston, Gloria Schatzel of Port Ewen, Marie McHale of Waltham, MA.

In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Theodore Amundsen, three brothers, Michael, John and Thomas Alecca.

Betty will be reposing at the Simpson-Hammerl Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 from 4-7 PM.

The funeral procession will form from the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 AM.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon at St. Mary’s Church.

Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Simpson-Hammerl Funeral Home is honored to assist the family of Betty with the arrangements.

WEST ARLINGTON, VT

Richard Joseph Dorr— Richard Joseph Dorr, 82, formerly of West Arlington, VT, passed away Friday September 28, 2018 at the Vermont Veterans Home. Richard was born in Rutland, VT on December 13, 1935 the son of the late Milton and Doris (Carter) Dorr and attended local schools.

Richard worked as a production expediter, retiring from Stanley Tools after many years. He also worked at the Cullinan Store as a butcher. Richard was a former member of the Arlington American Legion and was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII serving in Okinawa, Japan for 8 years.

Richard loved hunting and listening to country music. He loved siting on his front porch, his Jeep, four wheeler rides, camping and picnicking. He was always willing to help others.

Richard is survived by his children Brian Dorr of Syracuse, NY, Bruce Dorr of Chandler, Arizona, Brenda Dunlap of Arlington, VT, Jennifer Downey of Buckeye, Arizona and Jeff Dorr of Pembroke, NH, sisters Patty Petty and Maryanne Bruso both of Rutland, VT and Judy Bailey of Pittsford, VT in addition to 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne (Cross) Dorr whom he married March 2, 1957 in Arlington, Mrs. Dorr passed away May 25, 2011. Brothers Buddy and Reggie Dorr as well as sisters Beverly Rosmus and Bunny Munson pre-deceased Richard.

Funeral Information

Funeral services for Richard will be held Saturday October 6, 2018 at 11am at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Route 7A Arlington, VT. Interment with military honors to follow in the family lot in West Arlington Cemetery. There are no visiting hours. — Ronald P Myers, 86, a resident of Bennington, VT, passed away August 14, 2018 at the Vermont Veterans Home. Ronald was born in Hoosick Falls, NY on July 31, 1932 the son of the late Albert and Norma (Gavone) Myers. He attended school in Hoosick Falls and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls, class of 1951. Ronald was employed at the former Benmont Corporation, managed the Charleston Mill Store in Bennington with his wife and later years was employed at Tansitor Electronics from which he retired. Ronald was a member of the United States Army serving his country during the Korean Conflict in the 25th Infantry Division from 1952-1957. He enjoyed hunting and fishing of all kinds, was an avid bowler for many years entering many tournaments with his son. He enjoyed following the San Francisco forty-niners and the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan. Ronald is survived by his children Raymond A. Myers and his wife Joann of Bennington and Cheryl L. LaRoche and her husband James of Bennington, grandchildren Robert P. Church and his wife Julie of Bennington, Andrew P. Myers and his significant other Felecia Blackberger of Bennington and Ethan C. Myers and his significant other Rebecca Garrity of Bennington and great grandson Kenneth Myers. He was preceded in death by his wife Mabel Alma Myers whom he married November 16, 1957 in South Shaftsbury, VT. Mrs. Myers died February 11, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his brother Albert Myers. Military honors will be accorded to Ronald on September 7, 2018 at 11am at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery followed by interment. There are no visiting hours. MANCHESTER, VT

— Julie Marie Wojtkowski Lawrence, 56, of Manchester, VT, died tragically on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Lowell Lake in Londonderry, VT. She drowned trying to rescue her five year old grandson, Jaxon Leo Lawrence. Jaxon passed away two days later surrounded by his family. Julie was born in Pittsfield, MA to Conrad Wojtkowski Sr. and Frances Clement on April 30, 1962. Julie graduated from Taconic High School in 1980 before continuing her education at Boston College.

Education and Work

During her junior year at Boston College, Julie joined the Army’s ROTC Program. After graduating, she enlisted in the Army, trained in nursing, making the rank of Captain. In 1988 she was honorably discharged. Julie and her first husband, Robert Rhodes, who was still in the Army, raised their family around the world. In 2002, Julie settled in Vermont and continued her nursing career at Rutland Regional Medical Center. During her time at RRMC, Julie worked as an RN in the ICU, PCU, Emergency Department, and most recently, Diagnostic Imaging. In 2014, Julie met the love of her life, Brian Lawrence, and the two married on July 11, 2015. Together, Julie and Brian enjoyed rides on their motorcycle, stopping at flea markets, visiting friends and exploring Vermont and beyond.

Activities

They took pleasure in camping with family and friends, making memories around the camp fire. Julie was a very active person and loved the outdoors. Hiking and snowshoeing with her dogs, kayaking in the summer, as well as skiing seriously fast in the winter were some of her favorite past times. Julie was always up for an adventure, never deterred by weather conditions. She was definitely tougher than most. Julie was an all-around talented person who enjoyed creating hand painted wooden crafts. Most recently, she had learned the craft of fused glass. She made beautiful jewelry, dishes, frames, in addition to night lights sharing them with family and friends. Julie Marie Lawrence was an avid baker/pie maker, filling many bellies and many hearts. For the past 16 years, Julie participated in a book club, reading every book.

A Joy to be around

A great sense of humor permeated Julie Marie Lawrence. She brought joy wherever she went and made lifelong friends around the world. Her reach was far and wide. Julie was a blessing and will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors

Julie Marie Lawrence was predeceased by her son, Gregory Joseph Rhodes, on October 28, 1994; a brother, Conrad R. Wojtkowski Jr., on November 11, 2016; her mother-in-law, Helen J. Lawrence, on June 3, 2017; and a nephew, Nicholas M. Wojtkowski, on April 13, 2018. Julie is survived by her parents, Conrad and Frances Wojtkowski; her beloved husband, Brian Lawrence; her father-in-law, Leo E. Lawrence; her children, Steven, Christopher, and Matthew Rhodes and Jacob and Brittany Lawrence; her grandchildren, Bryson, Carter, Noah, Aiden, and Ava; her siblings, Michael Wojtkowski (Debra), Lisa A. Brown (Jeffrey), Victoria W. Johnson (Chris); her nieces, Michelle Bartels (Alex), Audrey Wojtkowski, Freja Wojtkowski; nephews, Corey Bassett, Adrien Wojtkowski (Julia), Odin and Wrex Wojtkowski awa well as great nieces, Madelyn Bartels and Sydney Wojtkowski.

Celebration

A celebration of Julie’s life took place Saturday July 28, 2018 at 2pm at Brewster-Shea Funeral Home 34 Park Place Manchester Center, VT. Visiting hours at the funeral home happened on Friday July 27, 2018 from 5-7pm. Make Memorial Gifts in Julie’s memory to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, c/o Brewster-Shea Funeral Home P.O.
