FORT ANN, NY – Joseph “Joe” F. Wright, 78, of Fort Ann, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at Albany Medical Center, with his loving family by his side.

Joseph F Wright

Born December 15, 1942 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Reginald and Jennie (Gaulin) Wright.

On September 10, 1966 he married the love of his life, Wanda Louise Smith, at the United Methodist Church in Glens Falls.

Joe proudly served in the United States Navy.  He served six years of active duty, serving during the Vietnam War as an Aviation Jet Mechanic.  Joe obtained his GED while in the Navy and later was awarded an Honorary Diploma from Fort Ann Central School.  He also attended SUNY Adirondack, formerly Adirondack Community College.  While working for Kadant as a service technician, Joe enjoyed traveling the country, meeting many different people.

Joseph F Wright - Navy

Joe was a member of the United Methodist Church in West Fort Ann.   He was a past commander and current member of the Raymond W. Harvey Post 0703 American Legion.  Joe was active in volunteering in the West Fort Ann Fire Department for 17 years and a member of the Fort Ann Fire Volunteer Company in Fire Police.  He was a member of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for 35 years, Youth Little League for 21 years, and president of the Fort Ann Booster Club.  Joe was also a proud member of the Honor Guard at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Veterans Cemetery. He was awarded Washington County Senior of the Year in 2018 for his outstanding volunteer contributions.

Joe enjoyed spending time with his wife, Wanda, attending bluegrass festivals together, camping and fishing with her and their family.   He could always be found attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his beloved son and namesake, Joseph P. Wright; his brother, Reginald Wright and his granddaughter, Jenna Wright.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Wanda L. Wright of Fort Ann; his children, Michael Wright and his wife, Doreen of Hudson Falls, Kimberly Jones and her husband, Chris of Glens Falls, his daughter-in-law, Jody Wright of Hudson Falls, Bruce Wright and his wife, Heather of Fort Ann, Reginald Wright and his wife, Carrie of Fort Ann; his grandchildren, Johnathan, Lynette, Nathan, Rodman, Jazmine, William, Brendan, Cassidi, Brooke, Baylee, Sage and Brody; his step grandchildren, Casey, Brandon, Kimberly M. and Kenneth; his great grandchildren, Logan, Lillian, Trenton, Hunter, Cole, Ida, Auriella and Esher; his sister, Cynthia Mae Fleming and her husband, Denzel; his sister-in-law, Heneritta Palmer and Gordon of Queensbury, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

If Joe was here today, he would say he is thankful for the life he has lived, the family he has and the friends he gained along the way. I’m sure he is currently hugging his son he missed dearly, telling jokes and teaching everyone the lyrics to the “old black crow”.

Friends may call Sunday, May 23, 2021, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., on Monday, May 24, 2021, at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the funeral service, 1:30 p.m., at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., in the town of Stillwater, with full military honors.

Memorial donations in memory of Joe may be made to the Fort Ann Youth League, P.O. Box 172, Fort Ann, New York 12827, the Fort Ann Rescue Squad, 11287 NY 149, Fort Ann, New York 12827, or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675

LAKE GEORGE NY — Charles Woodbury Jefts of Lake George, New York, died after a short illness on April 22, 2018, the eve of his 63rd wedding anniversary, at home in the loving presence of his family. Up until the last weeks of his life he was still very active, enjoying outings with his wife, Helen, including driving up to his forest woodland in Diamond Point, a place he loved and spent countless hours over the years.

Charlie was born April 2, 1925 in Schenectady, NY where he graduated from Knott Terrace High School and enlisted in the US Navy in 1943, serving as an Aviation Ordinanceman Second Class in Jacksonville, Florida until his honorable discharge in 1946. After the war he returned to New York State and worked for the General Adjustment Bureau, assessing storm damage across the country. After moving to Glens Falls, he met Helen Suprenant. They married on April 23, 1955 settling in Lake George Village where he’d become a real estate agent with Floyd C. White. In 1968 he opened his own agency, Charles W. Jefts Real Estate, which operated until 2006. His work appraising land on and near Lake George reinforced for him the importance of valuing land for its own sake, versus something to be developed or significantly altered. He purchased two tree farms in his life time, from which he gained a vast amount of knowledge about tree species and forest management, much of which he has passed on to his daughters. It was very fitting that he should pass on Earth Day.

Charles Woodbury Jefts had many interests and a curious and sharp intellect. He practiced black and white photography and dark room development for many years, and took creative writing workshops. He was an avid reader on many topics, a cross-country skier, hiker, and sailor. He served on the Advisory Board for the State Bank of Albany and was one of three assessors for Lake George Village, and later the sole assessor for the town and village. He was a long time member and past-president of the Lake George Rotary Club and a member and past president of the Lake George Chamber of Commerce. In 2002 he and Helen were made Rotary International Paul Harris Fellows by their daughters.  Charlie became an exempt member of the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department in 1981 after 23 years of active service. He was one of the first scuba divers on Lake George in the early 1950s, and served as a part-time deputy sheriff on summer lake patrol from the late 1950s until the mid-1960s. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0374 and the Warrensburg Masonic Lodge 425. He and his family were also long time members of the Lake George Club.

In his retirement years he became a railroad conductor and engineer and went on to volunteer many hours for the Adirondack Scenic Railroad running the train between Old Forge and Thendara. He also joined Lower Adirondack Search and Rescue and participated in many operations.

Charles Woodbury Jefts is survived by his wife Helen, of Lake George, his two daughters, Susan Jefts of Middlebury, Vermont and Nancy Jefts of Brant Lake, and her husband Michael Comisky, two step-grandchildren, Jennifer Comisky of Salem, NY and Christopher Comisky (Kimberly) of Queensbury, and several step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Robert Jefts, his mother Ethel Woodbury Jefts Donnan, his father Frank Milton Jefts and his step-father, Nathan Donnan.

Calling hours will be held at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St. Queensbury, NY on Thursday, April 26, from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by a short service. There will be a gathering afterward for family and friends in Lake George.

The family requests no flowers. For those who wish to make a donation in his memory, please consider High Peaks Hospice, the Bell Tower fund of the Caldwell Presbyterian Church, 71 Montcalm Street, Lake George, NY 12845 or the Rotary Club of Lake George, P.O. Box 321, Lake George, NY 12845.

Condolences can be sent or brought to the Baker Funeral Home, or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.
