Pownal, Vermont – Dolores J Andrews, 88, a resident of Pownal, Vermont passed away peacefully on March 20th, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts following a long Illness.

Born on March 30, 1934 in Cohoes, New York. She was the daughter of the late Mark and Charlotte (Subcliff) Evans. As a teenager Dolores moved to Williamstown, Massachusetts, and later graduated from Williamstown High School.

On October 18, 1952, she married George Andrews at Pownal Center Community Church.

Dolores worked for many years at several doctors offices in the Bennington area.

In her free time, Dolores loved spending time with friends and family and attending family functions. For 17 years she and her husband George would spend the winter months at their second home in New Port Richie, Florida. Dolores also enjoyed; fishing, camping, crafts, and knitting.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, George Andrews. Her children; Cheryl Foster (Alan Tate), Pat Leonard (Bill), and Karen Rogers (Dale). Her grandchildren; Brian and Bruce Foster, Shawn Leonard, and Stacy Lauver. Her great grandchildren; Elizabeth, Aedan, Carter, Sawyer, Nevaeh, and Izabel.
As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dolores was predeceased by her sister, Joan Griggs and her brothers, Mark and John Evans.

Friends are invited to a visitation from 11am till 12pm on Friday, March 24th, 2023 at the Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington, Vermont. Following the conclusion of the visitation at noon, there will be a memorial service.

If friends should desire, contributions in memory of Dolores may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the Pownal Valley Swinging Seniors through the office of the Mahar Funeral Home 628 Main Street Bennington, Vermont 05201

Pownal, VT – Bruce “Moose” Bell, 61, a resident of Pownal, Vermont passed away unexpectedly on December 16th, 2022 at his residence.

He was born in Adams, MA on January 10, 1961 to the late Donald Rex Bell and Lois Holland.

He attended McCann Technical School and St. Joseph’s college. Bruce was a certified welder and mechanic. A jack of all trades; he was employed at Berkshire Iron Works for many years, assistant chief of police for Cheshire, MA, held a position as the Constable for Pownal, parts manager at Tornebens and was well known for being a radio broadcaster for WBTN 1370, as well as a local DJ.

He also was a member of the Pownal Fire Department for many years and hosted the Pownal Fire Department Bingo.
Bruce used to race his “Lucky Lady” at the Devil’s Bowl and Lebanon Valley Speedways and loved to spend time on his motorcycle. Moose was always doing something to stay busy. He loved everybody and was loved by everybody.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Holly Bell (O’Dell), of Pownal, VT, and his two daughters, Kristy (Joe) Pratt, of Pownal, VT and Joliene Bell, of Pownal, VT. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Bryianna Vallieres, of Pownal, and a half brother, Russell Holland, of Boston, Ma. Three nieces; Cindy (Smitty) Smith, of North Bennington, VT, Suzie (Mike) Cortoba, of Pownal, VT, Lyda Schudder, of Barstow, CT, two nephews; John Scaffnick, of Adams, MA and Eric Schaffnick, of Adams, MA and an aunt, Ellen Cardinal. Bruce has a large extended family, including Shelby Clemos, of Dalton, MA, and her three children; Keegan, Andrew and Bruce. He will be deeply missed by his four legged best friend Zoey and his feline friend Skeeter.

A memorial service for Bruce was held at 4:00pm on December 22nd, 2022 at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington, VT.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions can be made directly to the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201 to help the family with expenses. There are also donation cans available at Winchesters in Pownal, VT and Len Nichols and Son’s Service Center in Bennington, VT.

— Grace H Martin, 70, a resident of Pownal, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 16, 2018 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

History

Grace H Martin was the daughter of John and Marilyn ( Gibbs) Tifft she was born in Rochester , VT on April 5, 1948. Grace received her education in Rochester and was a graduate of Bennington High School.

Vocation/Hobbies

Grace had worked at Triangle PWC and the American Legion in Pownal, Vermont. Grace was well known for her exquisite cakes that she made for many special occasions for family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, reading and the many times spent with family , especially the Christmas season which she absolutely loved. Grace will be remembered as always putting others first before herself.

Survivors

Grace leaves her longtime companion Joel Burrington Sr. of Pownal, daughters Melody Mae Gilmore of Higganum, CT and Jennifer Lynn Martin of Kila, Montana, son Richard John Martin of Hoosick Falls, brothers Michael Tifft of Clarksburg, MA and David Tifft of Georgia, VT, sisters Rebecca Gratz of Bennington, Cheryl Sharkey and Linda Hill both of Hoosick Falls. Grace also leaves seven grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition, she was predeceased by a son Joel Francis Martin and sister Dorothy Capen.

Funeral Information/condolences

Funeral services for Grace H Martin will be held at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Saturday August 25 at noon . Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday from 10-noon. Burial will take place in the Park Lawn Cemetery. Condolences  may be placed at Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home.

Robin Ann Horton, age 59, passed away on July 31, 2018 at her home.

Robin was born on August 14, 1958 in Schenectady, New York. She was the daughter of the late James and Ethel (Winchell)Marra.

Robin worked for many years as an LPN often doing private duty. She was an animal lover and a strong supporter of her local SPCA where she volunteered. She and her husband gave many cats and dogs forever homes throughout the years.

Robin never had children of her own but loved her many nieces and nephews. She was a kind-hearted woman who was loved by all who knew her. She also enjoyed flowers.

Survivors

Robin was predeceased by her parents, and nephews Jeremy Jones and Charlie Marra. She was also predeceased  by her husband of 32 years, Harlan who passed on July 10, 2018. Robin is also survived by her siblings: James Marra of Granville, Jane Jones (Paul) of Granville, Timothy Marra (Sue) of CT, Charles Marra (Lynn) of Granville, and Leejoy Ferguson (Charlie) of Granville. She was blessed with her nieces and nephews: James and Steven Marra, Heather Johnson, Jason Martelle, Kim Moore, James McFarren, and Crystal Bennett, in addition to many grand nieces and nephews and many friends. She also leaves behind her pets: Bubba, Baby and Trouble.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 2 PM at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville. Friends may call from Noon until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery in Hartford, NY. Online condolences may be made at Robert M King Funeral Home

POWNAL, VT —

Kate Erin Burrington, 36, a resident of Pownal, VT passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday July 17, 2018 in Ocala, Florida. She was born in North Adams, MA on April 29, 1982 daughter of Joel and Karen (Wachowski) Burrington. She grew up in Pownal where she attended Pownal Elementary; she graduated from Mt. Anthony Union High School, Class of 2000. Kate was a loving and hardworking free spirit who was an avid horse lover from a very young age. Her very first pony was named, Paco and the next addition to the horse family was Tristan, her Morgan. Tristan and Kate were inseparable.

Influences

There were many people who influenced and helped Kate in her early years with her love for horses. However, two women who helped shaped the rider she was and the person she turned out to be were Denise Film and Edie Devens. Denise Film taught Kate to ride while she was in pony club and Edie Devens was Kate’s mentor and teacher throughout her teenage years. Right after high school, Kate went to work at Saratoga Race Track as an exercise rider, for trainer Jonathan Sheppard. Mr. Sheppard asked Kate to work for him at his training facility in Camden, South Carolina which launched her career as an exercise rider and trainer.

Kate’s career took her from Camden, South Carolina to Greenwich, New York, Versailles, Kentucky and most recently, Ocala, Florida with many stops in between. Some of the amazing places Kate worked include Todd Pletcher Racing Stables, Charles Lopresti Racing, Blackwood Stables, Stonebridge Farm, Mill Creek, KatieRich Farms and eventually, Stonestreet Farms. Kate was an incredible exercise rider and had vast knowledge of race horses and their breeding lines. She was a wonderful horse woman, daughter, family member and friend. Kate touched many lives through her travels and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Survivors

Kate Erin Burrington leaves her parents Joel and Karen Burrington of Pownal, paternal grandparents Joel G. Burrington and Barbara I. Vince both of Pownal, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. Kate was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Karl and Jean Wachowski. The family will receive friends at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Thursday August 2nd from 1-3pm. A private burial will take place in Pownal.
