POTTERSVILLE NY — Sheridan Delbert Hammond, also known as “Pete”, passed away peacefully at his home in Pottersville, New York, Saturday, June 23, 2018. This was after an extended battle with cancer. He was cared for by his wife, Carolyn White Hammond.

Pete was born on Feb. 11, 1942 in Glens Falls, NY, and grew up in Lake George, being the eldest son of Delbert Willard Hammond and Helen (Wolfe) Hammond Brown.

He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother Phillip Hammond, and his cousin Gary Wolfe who was like a brother.

Survivors

Pete is survived by his wife; his daughter, Faith Marie (Dale) Emery of Jamestown, Tenn; a granddaughter, and Domonique Marie Gaudreau of Nashua, NH. He is also survived by a grandson, Richard Daniel Gaudreau of Fryeburg, ME; an adopted son, Kevin Scott Hammond of GA; as well as five step-children, Rachel White, Clark White, Rebekah Myers, Lauralyn White, all of UT, and Justin White of OH.

Pete left the Adirondacks after high school to serve in the Army in Renton, Washington. He fell in love with the west and worked for Caterpillar Tractor as a mechanic in Phoenix, AZ after military discharge. He returned to the Adirondacks in 1966 after his father’s death. Pete left his mark with footprints from Massachusetts to Washington state, and was a member of the Operating Engineers and IBEW. There he helped to build water systems, heavy highway, construction of all kinds including the Million Dollar Beach at Lake George with his dad. He was also a very skilled carpenter building log homes, remodels in addition to other projects from New York to Idaho. In his early years he loved to race everything from dirt bikes to sprint cars.

The Outdoors

Pete Loved the Outdoors, learning trapping at the early age of thirteen on his uncle’s dairy farm in Dorset, VT. He became well known in the industry in the Adirondacks, also living in Idaho, Washington, Alaska, Arizona, and New Mexico. Pete owned and operated H&T Trading Post Trapline Supply. He had the privilege of being the opening demonstrator at the 50th National Trappers Convention in Lima, OH. Much of Pete’s life was spent as a hunting and fishing guide, operating charter services on Lake Ontario and Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Wyoming. He guided hunts in southeast Idaho, his favorite place being Diamond Creek where he even survived a savage black bear attack while on an elk hunt.

LAKE GEORGE NY — Peter W Smith, 77, sadly left us on June 19, 2018.  Born on May 22, 1941 to May and Don Smith, Pete was a life-long resident of the Lake George area.  He will be remembered as the original owner of Garrison Bar, and East Cove Restaurant in Lake George.  His quick wit, funny stories, and charming customer service left a mark with all who worked and frequented his establishments.

Pete is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Debbie; daughters, Larissa and Meredithe; son and best friend Logan; brother, Donald and sister-in-law, Barbara; brothers-in-law, Alan, Peter, Tom and Brad, as well as several cousins. Pete welcomed his sons-in-law, Patrick and David as his own, and his pride and joy were his Grandsons Harris and Evan who loved their Poppy and his tickles.

Peter W Smith loved driving a boat on Lake George, the NY Giants, his classmates from Norwich University, skiing, golf, watching Larissa’s softball games, in addition to traveling with Debbie. More enjoyment cam from spending time with his family and close longtime friends near and far.   We will all miss him dearly.

A celebration of life will be held Friday June 22nd at 1pm The Boardwalk Restaurant, 2 Lower Amherst Street, Lake George, NY 12845.

LAKE GEORGE NY — Emma K Zemanek passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Glens Falls Center, formally The Stanton, at 103 years of age.

Born in Schenectady, N.Y. on August 5, 1914, she was the daughter of Carl and Cecelia (Gallagher) Frederick. Emma lived in Rotterdam most of her life, until moving to Glen Lake in 1959.

Emma attended Carmen School & Draper High in Schenectady. She worked at Schenectady ALCO during World War II. After moving to Glen Lake, she worked as a Food Service Manager at Lake George School until her retirement in 1977.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she served as Eucharistic Minister for many years.

Loves

Some of her enjoyments included bowling, golf at the Par-3 courses, knitting, crocheting, playing cards (especially Bridge), and traveling. She enjoyed many lunches and other activities at the Queensbury Senior Center, where she made many good friends.

She married William Antalek in June of 1938, but sadly William died while serving in World War II, July of 1944. Emma remarried in February of 1946 to Paul Zemanek, who passed away December of 1988 after 42 years of marriage.

In addition to her parents and two husbands, Emma was predeceased by a brother, Charles Whelan; in addition to sisters Elizabeth Shave and Dorothy Frederick; and a son-in-law, Edward Willigan.

Survivors

Survivors include her two daughters and one son: Judy (Gary) West of Queensbury, Kay Willigan of Glen Lake, and Paul (Sheryl) Zemanek of Glens Falls; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; several nephews and two nieces.

Calling hours took place Monday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to noon at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A Funeral Mass for Emma K Zemanek was celebrated Monday April 30, 2018, following the visitation, at 1 p.m. at Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation, with the Rev. Joseph Busch, pastor, officiating.

Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Lake George.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Emma’s roommate and friend at the nursing home, Peggy, who was such a kindhearted and caring lady.
