Calabasas, California – Lisa Marie Presley has died after suffering a cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, Calif., on Thursday morning. The singer-songwriter, humanitarian, and only child of rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Elvis Presley was 20 days shy of her 55th birthday.

Lisa Marie was found unresponsive by her housekeeper on Thursday morning. Her ex-husband Danny Keough, with whom she lived, administered CPR until paramedics arrived. After her pulse was restored, she was taken to a nearby Intensive Care Unit and placed on life support, in an induced coma, with a temporary pacemaker. According to TMZ’s sources, Lisa Marie had complained of stomach pains earlier Thursday morning, and her death was not a suicide. Lisa Marie’s father and paternal grandmother also both died from heart attacks at young ages, respectively at 42 and 46.

Lisa Marie Presley was born in Memphis on Feb. 1, 1968, exactly nine months after her parents’ wedding. She had a tough childhood, with her parents divorcing when she was age 4 and her father dying when she was 9.

When Elvis Presley died in 1977, Lisa Marie became a joint heir to his estate, along with her grandfather and great-grandmother. At that point the estate was only worth a reported $5 million; however, Priscilla, a trustee in Elvis’s will, was able to build that fortune back up to an estimated $100 million by the time Lisa Marie solely inherited the estate on her 25th birthday, in 1993. Lisa Marie was the owner and chairman of the board of the Elvis Presley Trust and its business entity, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., from 1998 until 2005, when she sold 85% of the estate, not including Graceland.

In 2003, Lisa Marie launched her own rock music career, at the relatively late age of 35, with To Whom It May Concern. The album, which featured illustrious personnel like Billy Corgan, David Campbell, Jon Brion, Matt Chamberlain, Mike Elizondo, Abe Laboriel Jr., and Wendy Melvoin, went gold and peaked No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. It garnered mostly positive reviews, as did her next two albums: 2005’s Now What (which went to No. 9 and featured a cover of Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry,” a seeming jab at the tabloids’ constant scrutiny of her personal life), and 2012’s T Bone Burnett-produced Storm & Grace (whose track “So Long” was a seeming jab at the Church of Scientology).

Lisa Marie was married four times: to musician Danny Keough from 1988 to 1994, to pop superstar and childhood friend Michael Jackson from 1994 to 1996, to actor Nicolas Cage from 2002 to 2004 (although they separated after just three months), and to music producer Michael Lockwood from 2006 to 2021 (they separated in 2016). She had two children from her first marriage, actress/model daughter Riley Keough and son Benjamin Storm Keough, and two from her fourth, fraternal twin girls Harper Vivienne Ann and Finley Aaron Love Lockwood.

In July 2020, tragedy struck the Presley family yet again, when Benjamin died by suicide at age 27.

San Jose, California – Sandra Elizabeth Terrill November 20, 1940 – December 25, 2022
On Christmas morning, Sandra Terrill of San Jose, CA died at the age of 82.

She is survived by her four children: Lydia (spouse Colin Clancy, children Conor, Caeleigh), of San Jose Ted (daughter Britnee) of Charleston SC, Amy of San Jose, and Drew (spouse Carol, children Claire, Brendan) of Albany OR. She is also survived by her siblings, Charlo, George, and Meghan, along with Donna, Joey, and many others her parents fostered. She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, husband David, aunts, uncles, and grandson Theodore Clifford (“Tc”).

Sandy was born to Marge and Wes Wakefield in Woodbury, NJ and enjoyed growing up at the beach in Avalon, NJ. Sandy found an early love for Jesus and most days woke up singing, usually about Jesus. She knew thousands of songs and as a teen sang in the Stroudsburg Presbyterian choir along with Fred Waring & The Pennsylvanians.

She graduated from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College with a Bachelor’s in French and also worked on her Master’s Degree at Millersville University. She taught French at several schools and later taught both French and Spanish for 20 years at Faith Christian School in Rosetta, PA. Travel during school holidays inspired her and she took memorable trips with her husband and their young children across the U.S. and Canada, South America, France, Spain and later Switzerland with her mother, Aunt Phyllis and daughter Lydia. She and her family spent very happy times volunteering at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm, immersed in pioneer crafts.

Sandy’s other big love was her family and friends, whom she considered precious gifts from God. After 2014, Dementia made it harder for her to move and speak, but she appreciated and accepted help with a happy smile and words of encouragement. When she moved to live with her daughter Amy in 2015, she continued to learn and grow, enjoying a variety of enrichment centers and local events, making new friends wherever she went, and participating at her maximum possible level. She was happy to find Orthodoxy and was chrismated in the Greek Orthodox Church at age 75, choosing the name Sophia. She kept her sunny disposition and positive attitude to the very end, amazing many at her resilient, creative, caring nature that helped her enjoy life richly in spite of the challenges she faced. She loved to laugh, sing, praise God, and give excellent compliments and blessings.

It is with joyful sorrow that I share with you the passing of Sandy (Sophia) Terrill. November 20, 1940 – December 25, 2022

San Francisco, CA – Jo Ann Hendricks, 88, passed peacefully on December 8, 2022.

She was born in Springfield, Missouri and moved to Northern California with her parents and older brother prior to starting school. She graduated from George Washington High School in San Francisco and remained a devoted resident of San Francisco until her passing. She graduated from San Francisco State and after a few years in the workforce went on to receive her Masters Degree also from San Francisco State. She was an instructor of Business and Political Science at City College of San Francisco for almost 40 years, retiring in 2010. She was a devoted teacher and mentor to a multitude of students. She delighted in maintaining contact with many of her students after they graduated.

In addition to teaching and mentoring students, Jo Ann was passionate about animal welfare and was a dog-mama to several adorable small dogs from her first dog, the Maltese Toasto, to her beloved Shih Tzu, Lulu Belle, and several in between. There were a number of very lucky dogs to have had Jo Ann as their human.

Jo Ann was a life-long learner with an interest in history, politics, art, current events, and music, particularly jazz. She enjoyed a good meal or a good shopping trip with friends and family and passed on a love of chocolate to her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her nieces and nephew (Bridgette, Sara, Philip and his spouse Lisa), and great-niece and great-nephew (Kelly and Pete) and is legendary within the family for being a “fun” aunt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Helen, and brother, David.

Portsmouth, NH – Marilee “Mary and Geema” Karkota Clark, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2022. Marilee was born on February 6, 1946, in Sioux City, IA, to Alexander and Genevieve (Lande) Karkota.

Marilee graduated from Armijo Joint Union High School in Fairfield, California, in 1964. She had been a dedicated nurse for over 50 years and had a genuine passion for nursing and education. She and her family are extremely proud of her accomplishments. She earned her Practical Nursing License in 1974 at Metropolitan Technical Community College. She earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from New Hampshire Technical College in 1996 and became a Registered Nurse. She didn’t stop there. She continued her education and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Daniel Webster College in 2002. Her most recent educational achievement, at the age of 71, was a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Granite State College. As with everything in her life, she always went above and beyond what was expected of her, achieving not just 100% but 110%.

Marilee’s nursing career was extensive, she worked in multiple hospitals and had many specialties. Her career started as a volunteer candy striper and grew from there, to include critical care, psychiatric and pediatric nursing. Marilee’s focus near the end of her career was on home care for extremely ill children and babies until she became ill herself. While devoted to her patients and family, her natural instinct was to care for everyone, leaving an indelible mark on those whose lives she touched.

Marilee loved to travel, especially with her loving husband, Hal. If you couldn’t find her camping in the RV you could find her on a cruise in the middle of the ocean, or perhaps at the Worlds largest Truckstop on Iowa 80 W. In her free time, she would take courses to continue her education and enjoy time in the garden with her fur- babies, Ricky and Lola. Marilee took pride in cooking for her family whenever she got the chance, especially during Sunday Lunches. She loved “chatting” and was a skilled conversationalist, spending hours talking with family and friends. Her passion for politics would draw us all into the discussion.

Marilee will be forever loved by her Husband of 29 years, Hal; Her loving Children, Heather, Jen, and Darrin; and Stepson, Hazen; Fur-Babies, Ricky, and Lola; Her loving Grandchildren; Courtney, Megan, Ben, Hailey, Regan, Quinn, Dora, and Albin; Sister, Alexis; Nieces, Jessica and Erin; Nephew, Alex. Marilee is joining her Parents, Alexander and Genevieve, and her loving dog Lucy in eternal life.

Marilee would like to thank her family at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newington, NH for their caring support. The Family would like to thank the incredible nurses, doctors, and all supporting staff (who became family) from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA for their compassionate and loving care. Especially Dr. Marlise Luskin, Dr. Philips, Theresa NP, Nori RN, Jennifer RN, and Donna PCA.

Services: A time of visitation will be held from 11am – 1pm with a memorial service immediately following on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth. Dr. Patrick Allen Kelly died unexpectedly of sudden cardiac arrest on the evening of November 4, 2021. He was in his home in Highland Park, in Los Angeles, California at the time and was rushed to Huntington Memorial Hospital for care, but the vigilant team of EMTs and hospital staff could not save him. He was 61 years old. This loss is a shock to all who knew and loved him.

Patrick was born on an airbase in Misawa-shi, Aomori-ken, Japan on December 8,1959, to Patrick Kelly (Sr.) and Julia (Judy) Kelly. His sister, Andrea Kelly, came along four years later.

His father was in the Airforce, and they moved several times. Living at different points in Kansas, Florida, Arizona, North Dakota, Germany Montana, and California.

Patrick was creative, loving, and proud of his sense of style. When he was teased by his peers for wearing a turquoise necklace, he showed up the next day wearing even more jewelry. As a child he often struggled to fit in with his school mates, teachers, and community, who were at times less than kind to a sensitive, curious, and creative soul. He often said the struggles of his youth informed his choice to become a child psychologist.

He went to elementary schools on air bases all over the US and Europe, his favorite was Germany. He graduated from high school in Sidney Montana in 1977.

He loved his glamours aunt Teeb and loved to be around her and her friends or “the cool kids” as he called them. He worked for her at her fabulous gift shop, Whatever, in the early 1980s. His love for his aunt grew when she had her children Joe and Katie. Katie visited Patrick in Los Angeles several times and they shared a special kinship.

In 1984 he moved to Los Angeles, California. He studied interior design before deciding to pursue a doctorate in psychology. He met his dearest friend, Ari, in school, and they became inseparable until Ari died in 1995. The bond between Patrick and Ari’s family, the Castañón’s, was undeniable. They kept him as one of their own from that day on.

He worked at Napa Auto Parts in Montana before transferring to a Napa store in Los Angeles, where he went to pursue his higher education. He achieved his goal, earning a BA in psychology, with minors in sociology, and human sexuality from California State University, Northridge, a master’s in psychology from the California School of Psychology, and a doctorate in psychology from California School of Professional Psychology. He became a licensed psychologist in 2006. He had a strong connection to his calling to help underserved children and families.

While in school in Los Angeles, he was also a teaching and research assistant. He worked as a childcare supervisor at Children of the Night, did his practicum at AIDS Project Los Angeles, and interned at Children, Youth and Family Services Consortium and Verdugo Mental Health. He did his post doctorate at Verdugo Mental Health and went on to become a clinician and their director of training. When Verdugo was bought out by Didi Hirsch in 2011 he was hired by them and worked for them for the rest of his career. Starting out as a program coordinator, he moved up to lead clinical supervisor, and was promoted to Assistant Program Director in 2013. He was beloved by his co-workers and many of their remembrances have been added to the end of the obituary.

He met Darren Schroader in the fall of 2013 and they feel completely in love. They moved in together in 2014 and rescued their terrier mutt, Walt Whitman, in 2015. The happy couple were married on May 4, 2019.

He adored live music and loved singer songwriters like Patti Smith, Joan Armatrading, and Sufjan Stevens and he has a special place in his heart for The Clash’s London Calling. He loved going to shows at the Hollywood Bowl, The Greek Theater, and any number of local music halls in Los Angeles. He also loved dancing and when he wasn’t busting his moves at a wedding, or holiday or birthday party, he could occasionally be seen at Akbar in Silverlake or Precinct in Downtown LA shaking his groove thing. He loved going to the Cavern Club in the basement of Casita del Campo to see campy, exciting drag performances by Dina Martina and the drag version of The Golden Girlz. He loved the visual arts and regularly attended art museums and local are openings. He was politically active and took part in many marches and protests for women’s rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, and social justice issues like, Black Lives Matter. In 2014, when his entire apartment building was unceremoniously evicted, he became a founding member the Rodney Drive Tenants Association, who got together and sued the landlord and went on to assist and promote tenant’s rights in Los Angeles.

At the beginning of the Christmas season, near his birthday, he would always throw a tree trimming birthday party, which friends and family alike love to attend. Patrick was mad about all holidays, but he especially loved Christmas, and even though he was an atheist, he felt that Christmas could bring out the best in people. He had beautiful penmanship and loved wrapping presents and giving gifts. Nothing seemed to give him more joy than giving presents to others and he reveled in doing it.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Kelly, sister DeAnn Marie Kelly, his dearest friend Ari Castañón, and Emory, the one and only cat he would admit to loving, and many friends and loved ones due to the AIDS crisis in the 1980s and 1990s, his paternal grandfather James (Jim) Kelly and paternal grandmother Neva Kelly, and his maternal grandfather Henry (Hank) Whitaker and maternal grandmother Delphia Whitaker.

He is survived by his husband, Darren Schroader and their terrier, Walt Whitman, his sister Andrea (Andee) Gardner, his father Patrick Kelly, and his chosen family members including the Castañón and Hernandez families, Phil Hettema, Kathy Porter Mann, Gargi and Thad Matuszeski, Mitesh Parekh, and many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws, including Logan Gardner, Lane Gardner, Corey Gardner, Andy Gardner, Mac Gardner, Teeb Kappel, Dean Kappel, Joe Kappel, Schlee Kappel, Briar Kappel, Katherine (Kelly) Kappel, DePrise Prado, Kyle Miller, Steve Miller, Joe Kelly, Patty Kelly, Janet Tyler, Ashton Lee Kelly, Austin Patrick Kelly, Kinslee Kelly, Oaklynn Leigh Kelly, Henry Kenneth Kelly, Sabina Mauricio, Madhai Mauricio, Lorena Stout, Noah Hernandez, Eliza Hernandez, Zoe FayssouxMaya MatuszeskiLeila MatuszeskiGuilda Schroader, Mark Schroader, Asher Schroader, Debbie Schroader, Mitchell Schroader, and Martin Schroader.

He had no children of his own, but as a child psychologist he fostered the growth and development of countless children, and he was the favorite uncle of all his nieces and nephews.

He was a fiercely kind and compassionate man with a wicked sense of humor and a love for life, friends, iced tea, and gardening. His loss will be felt by many for a very long time.

Per Patrick’s wishes, he was cremated and his remains with be kept by his husband in their home in Highland Park.

Services will be held on Sunday, November 21 at 5:00 PM at The Women’s Twentieth Century Club of Eagle Rock, 5105 Hermosa Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90041. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in Patrick’s name to Donor’s ChooseThe Trevor Project, and Planned Parenthood.
