From there he became a civil servant with the U.S. Postal Service and met his wife, Mildred (Millie) F. Carabeau (Moot) before he retired after 28 years as the Danby, VT rural carrier. He always carried parcels to the doors of his patrons and looked after the elderly on his route. Christmas eve was a special day for him. He made it a point to wait for the late afternoon truck to come from the distribution center, gathered up any new packages and deliver them to his patrons before the holiday. In his adult years, Bud and Millie lived in Tinmouth and built a house together in Danby, VT. They moved to St. Agatha and Limestone, ME; and finally, Hartford, NY in their retirement years. They enjoyed their time together fishing, hunting, birdwatching, landscaping, and was always up for an adventure, especially traveling all over the United States in their truck and 5th wheel camper. Their trips to Alaska were their fondest memories. Together, Bud and Millie enjoyed making maple syrup in their retirement years and sharing their love of it with all the visitors who came to see their maple operation. They loved to go out to visit restaurants. Above all Bud cherished his time spent with family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His generous spirit was noted by all.
