Winooski, VT – Joyce A Walker, 81, passed away at home with her family by her side on Friday, March 17, 2023.

She was born in New York City on June 9, 1941, the daughter of John and Laura (Triola) Pepple. She was employed in healthcare as an LNA with Green Mountain Nursing home until retirement. Anyone that knew Joyce knew that she did not have a mean bone in her body; she was a kind soul full of love and laughter and lived and worked to see her family, but especially her children, happy. Joyce would move heaven and earth for her loved ones, always putting everyone before herself.

She leaves her companion, Richard Bordeau; her children: Laura Walker, Clint Walker and his partner, Desiree Fisher; grandchildren: Makayla Yandow and her husband, Adam Yandow, R.J. Cota and his wife, Ashley Cota, Tommy Drogalis and his wife, Danielle Bourbeau Drogalis, along with several great grandchildren and extended family.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Tina O’Toole, who was Joyce’s first blessing in life.

Joyce’s family would like to thank the University of Vermont Medical Center’s efforts in the year-long battle with dementia in keeping their mother, grandmother, and friend as safe, comfortable, and stable for as long as possible. They would also like to personally thank the family’s social worker, Odessa Kilby-Way, from UVMMC, Eliza LeFevre from Age Well, and Carrie Rae, Addie Chadwick, and Jen Campbell from Bayada Hospice.

Visitation is on Friday, March 24, 2023, from 5-8pm at Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home, 97 Elmwood Ave., Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 10 am in St. Joseph Cathedral, Burlington. Spring Interment will be in FT. Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester at a later date.

Those wishing may send memorial contributions to:

Burlington, Vt – David Charles Cherhoniak,68, born April 1,1953 in Derby CT, passed on October 16, 2021. David lived much of his adult life on the East Haven shore in Connecticut. Welcoming family and friends to enjoy the beach and water of the Long Island Sound, his passion for this area of Connecticut was infectious. David’s family and friends celebrated and relaxed many days with him throughout the years. He also had a love and passion for sports, real estate and traveling the coast lines.

David was the beloved son of the late Charles and Priscilla (Tarasuk) Cherhoniak. He was raised at 61 Moss Avenue, Seymour, CT, at their family home. He is survived by his siblings who loved him very much; Kathleen Collins, Chuck Cherhoniak, Priscilla Connelly, sister-in-law, Carol Cherhoniak and brother-in-laws, Gerald Collins(now deceased)and George Connelly. David enjoyed and took interest in his nieces and nephews: Tamara, Christopher, Michael, Scott, Brian, Hailey, Justin and their partners. He also had some Greats that brought him smiles and laughter; Kathryn, Robin, Aiden, Ayva, Chloe, Jordan, Lucas and Sam. David was sorrowfully predeceased by his fun loving nephew Joshua Samuel. He is remembered by extended family and friends. An important second family that supported and loved David through the years was his first and only former wife, Evelyn Sabetta and her family. He is also survived by his long lifetime friend, Rachel Mathieu.

David graduated from Seymour High School in 1971. He was Senior Class President, Co-Captain of the football team and an honor student. He was known for his athletic abilities, musical talent, easy going personality and clearly was a deep thinker. He developed strong business and entrepreneur skills. Graduating from an ivy league, The University of Pennsylvania, he was a student and graduate of the Wharton School of Business. He worked for First Pennsylvania Bank in the International Dept, and Barclays Bank for a short time. He began his business, National Broadcast Finance Corp., developing creative multimillion dollar deals for radio stations. David had great passion for radio communications regardless of technology minimizing the need for it in our society.

While continuing to work in his company, he diverted his attention to real estate investments. He was impacted by the economic collapse of 2008. David’s primary home was severely damaged by Hurricane Irene in 2011 and followed by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. He never recovered from his losses and moved to Vermont in 2018. He suffered from untreated depression, Chronic type 2 diabetes with complications including cardio vascular disease.
