Nashville, TN – Sylvia Jean Hartzog, age 76 of Nashville, TN passed away January 7, 2023.

She was born in Winston Salem, NC to the late James & Minnie Plaxico. Sylvia grew up in Winston Salem and attended Glenn High School.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Art was a passion that was shared with her mother Minnie and sister Patricia. She taught studio art at Farragut High School in Knoxville. It was at UT where she met her husband Mark who was studying for his law degree. The two fell in love and had a wonderful marriage of over 50 years.

Sylvia and Mark explored the world, travelling to places like Italy, France, Canada, Costa Rica, Argentina, and China. Sylvia had an intense love of other cultures. She shared a love of travel with family by exploring new restaurants, art museums, and sporting events including a recent Boston Red Sox game. A skilled painter, Sylvia was accomplished at design, home improvement, and renovation. Her creativity spilled over to numerous volunteer projects with her children’s schools, and she was a marvel when it came to costume design and crafting children’s clothes.

A remarkable grandmother, Sylvia was present for countless dance and orchestra performances, sporting events, and school gatherings. For holidays, she hosted memorable Thanksgiving, Christmas, and birthday celebrations. Sylvia is known to grace her neighbors with her famous, homemade cookies and thoughtful handwritten notes. She made sure everyone felt loved and had plenty of good food to eat.  Sylvia had such a friendly effervescent personality no matter the circumstances. She touched so many people in such a positive way, and her love and presence were tremendous gifts.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband, Mark Hartzog and sister, Patricia Plaxico.

She is survived by her son, Clay Hartzog of Tullahoma, TN; daughter, Julie (Roy) Garcia of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Lindsey Beatty, and Sebastian Garcia.

Funeral service will be held 10:00AM Saturday, January 14, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church of Nashville, 4815 Franklin Pike. Nashville, TN. Dr. Sandra Randleman will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Clay Hartzog, Julie Garcia, Roy Garcia, Joaquin Garcia, Lindsey Beatty and Sebastian Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be Rose Pickel, Dr. and Mrs. Glenn Buckspan, Ed Silva, Staff of Hartzog and Silva, PLC and Staff of Heritage Title and Escrow. 

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Walden’s Puddle, Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, Frist Art Museum, and First Presbyterian Church of Nashville. Visitation will be 5-7PM Friday at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at First Presbyterian Church of Nashville. Franklin, TN – Edwin S Myers, age 97 of Franklin, TN passed away January 8, 2023. He was born on November 30, 1925 to David Edwin and Gertrude May Sullivan Myers in Baltimore, Maryland. While employed by United States Fidelity and Guarantee Co., he obtained an A.I.I.A. Designation in insurance and was transferred to Nashville in 1954 as Fire and Marine Superintendent of the Nashville branch office. Edwin was a past president and longtime secretary-treasurer of the Tennessee Insurance Association, and a past president of the Tennessee State Fire Prevention Association. In 1965, he was a warded a presidential citation by the Insurers of Tennessee Association. Also, he was a past Most Loyal Gander of the Honorable Order of Blue Goose International, an insurance fraternal and charitable organization. In 1992, he was named Volunteer of the Year by the Brentwood Library.

Following retirement after 35 years with the U.S.F.&G., Edwin founded Myers Products Co. and Save-On Printing Co. which he operated for another 20 years before retiring in 2008.

Edwin served as a member of the Church Council and Treasurer of Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nashville prior to moving to Franklin in 1974 and subsequently joining St. Andrew Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council for a number of years. He also was a member of the Franklin Lions Club and a member of the J.L. Clay Senior Citizen’s Center.

Edwin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Martha Lou Myers. He is survived by his four children, Carl (Pat) Myers, John (Jeannie) Myers, Winona Lou (Cecil) Hackler and Virginia Lou (Melinda) Myers and two grandchildren, Russell (Jaime) Myers and Natalie Myers (Kurt) Simmons; four great-grandchildren, Henry Myers, Charlie Myers, Emma Simmons and Ellie Simmons.

Services will be at St. Andrew Lutheran Church of Franklin, 908 Murfreesboro Road, Franklin, TN 37064 on Saturday January 14, 2023. Visitation and family and friends will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Morgan Gordy and Rev. Julian Gordy officiating. Nashville, TN – Robert “Jackie” Rogers Jr, 68, a lifelong resident of Nashville, TN died unexpectedly on January 9, 2023.
Born to parents Robert “Jack” Rogers, Sr. and Aileen Dodd Rogers, Jackie graduated from John Overton High School in 1972 and went on to obtain his Associate of Arts degree from Martin College in Pulaski, TN. Afterwards, he worked at Eli Witt Cigar Corporation as a salesman before becoming the deliveryman at the family business, The Sunshine Shop. He happily worked delivering gifts for The Sunshine Shop until he retired.

Although Jackie never married or had children of his own, he was a true family man and devoted his life to caring for his parents and his nephews and nieces. He played an especially important role in his nephew Hunter Long’s life, serving as his father figure. Jackie was a jolly uncle. He loved telling jokes and stories, bouncing kids up and down on his belly, playing cards, going to the arcade and playing pool, and practicing baseball and basketball with them. Jackie spent hours at the baseball field, coaching and helping Hunter and the team develop their own love for the game. Jackie’s favorite things were Tootsie Rolls, visiting his friends at the Waffle House, and watching old, black and white western movies.

Jackie is survived by his siblings: Janet (Chester) Stewart, Jim Rogers, Jennie (Kenny) West of Nashville, TN and John (Deanna) Rogers of Bowling Green, KY and his nieces and nephews: Joseph Stewart of Knoxville, TN, Heather Stewart (Jamie) Schnick of Prineville, OR, Catherine Stewart, Hunter Long of Nashville, TN, Maegan Rogers, McKenize Rogers, and Macy Rogers of Bowling Green, KY.

Visitation will be held Saturday January 21, 2023 at Mt. Olivet Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to noon. Visitation will be followed by a graveside ceremony at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Nashville, TN – Richard Alan Davidson, 66, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Born September 14, 1956, in Harriman, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Ray Davidson and Gwen Dunaway.

Richard was a graduate of the 1974 class at Goodlettsville High School. He had been an engineer with Metro Public Works for 30 years. He was a longstanding member of Dale Church of the Nazarene where he served as music director. Richard also belong to the local Masonic Lodge 254. Mr. Davidson loved sports. “Pop” enjoyed playing golf and softball, and often found a way to get involved with his grandchildren’s sports teams whether it was coaching or scorekeeping. He was also an avid fan of the University of Tennessee Volunteers and Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Patti Joyce Davidson.
He is survived by his daughters Carol (Terry) Morris and Mandy (Sanders) Gammons; a nephew that he and his late wife raised, Patrick (Dawn) Hunt; sisters Debbie McAlister and Karen Sherrill; brother Gary (Joni) Davidson; brother-in-law Wade Hunt; sisters-in-law Carla Hunt and Janet Jones; grandchildren Tyler Morris, Colin (Ashley) Morris, Hannah Gammons, Ava Gammons, Tenley Morris and Renner Gammons; great grandchildren Aubree, Chevy and C.J.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was held at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Friday, January 13th from 12 pm until 8 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville. Visitation will continue Saturday morning at 10 am until 2 pm. A Celebration of Life Service officiated by Bro. Bart Anderson will take place on Saturday at 2 pm.

Gilead Ohio – Danny Oliver Cochran on the early morning of November 17th, 2022 entered into eternal rest to be with the Lord. Born on June 25th, 1942, in Tazewell VA to Truman and Nannie Lou (White) Cochran.

Danny was co-owner of Hidden Hills Golf Course (Howard OH), former founding partner of Unibus Incorporated (Strongsville OH), but he was known to his family as the singer and strummer of ballads.

His most important work was mending the toys, homes, and hearts of those he loved. He spent many weekends as a grill master, storyteller, golfer, and card player. He loved to laugh and joke around with everyone.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Susan Cochran (Myers). Father of 7 to: Jane Tutor of Maryville TN, Randy (wife Belva) Cochran of Blythe GA, Tina (husband Kevin) McLain of Cleveland OH, Christine (husband Rob) Webb of Bellefontaine OH, Robin (partner Matthew Mazon) Cochran of Mount Vernon OH, Mathew Cochran of Kenton OH, and Susan Ellen Cochran of Danville OH. He is also survived by his sister Johnnie Allen of Harlem GA and brother-in-law William J. (wife Brenda) Myers JR. He was the loving grandfather of several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and had many nieces and nephews.

Danny is preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Nannie Lou Cochran, 2 brothers and 8 sisters.
