Valley, NE – Harvey John Soll was born on Aug. 12, 1934, in Bennington, Nebraska, the youngest of eight children, to Henry and Katie (Hagedorn). His father died when he was just 2 years old. They moved around to several locations before settling in Clarks, Nebraska, at age 4. When he was 15 his mother passed away. Harvey ended up moving to the Charles Warren farm by Gretna with his brother, Lester. It was during this time that Harvey met Helen K. Ehlers at a dance in Millard, Nebraska, and while talking they found out their parents knew each other when they all lived by Bennington when Harvey and Helen were just infants.

Harvey married Helen on Aug. 20, 1955. They were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson, Nebraska. They moved in January 1957 to Valley, where he worked for a cattle feeder and farmer until he was drafted into the Army. After basic training, he was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. Helen joined him and Harvey Gene was born in November of 1958. They remained in Oklahoma until he left the Army Artillery Unit in January 1959.

Coming home from Lawton as Specialist Fourth Class – Honorable Discharge, Harvey and family moved to Herman where Harvey farmed with David Rasmusson. Harvey was able to move his family to Clyde Allen farm in Valley, Nebraska, in fall of 1959. During this time he and family joined St Mark’s Lutheran Church. Ricky John was born in November 1962. Harvey would continue farming for Ed Miller and then Don Rogert then farmed and retired from Robinson Seed Company.

Many times he said, “I was born on a farm, worked on a farm, and retired on a farm.” His true love was Helen who after 60 years of marriage passed away Nov. 16, 2015. He and Helen were always together and from 2010-2015, he was the best caregiver she could have ever had. He was even known to teach a nurse (or 2-3) how to change and clean her colostomy bag.

He loved and cared for his family, Gene and Jeri (Place) and Rick and grandkids, Brad (Frankie) Soll – Arlington, Nebraska, Katie (Brandon) Banks – Crescent City, California, Becca (Eric) Miller – Fort Dodge, Iowa, Melinda (Logan) Keene – Baxter, Tennessee, and Erik (Calli) Soll – Arlington.

He was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he would say, “I have five beautiful and healthy grandkids and 16 great-grandchildren that are amazing and healthy”.

Harvey passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, at Methodist Fremont Health at the age of 88.

The funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Valley. Interment with military honors at German Cemetery, rural Bennington. Visitation is Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Reichmuth Funeral Home, Elkhorn. Memorials to the church or American Heart Association.

Lexington, NE – Gary “Kumbo” Edward Kumm, 60, of Callaway, Nebraska peacefully passed away surrounded by family Thursday, November 17th at his home in Callaway NE after a long, tough battle with cancer.

Kumbo was born September 4, 1962 in Plainview, NE to Norma Lee Croxen. He attended and graduated high school in Creighton NE before joining the Army in 1981. Kumbo served his country from 1981-1984 and talked often about the time he spent in Germany. Kumbo was a member of the American Legion Post 59.

As a teenager Kumbo went to work for Pahl Construction and was a natural at running any piece of equipment he climbed into. It was in the Army that Kumbo honed his operating skills in heavy equipment, dozers being his favorite.. Kumbo could tell you anything you wanted to know about dozers and was extremely enthusiastic when doing so. Kumbo worked for 4 construction companies in his career including Paulson Inc. and Charlie Lloyd Construction. He loved his work and had great respect for his bosses Larry Paulsen and Charlie Lloyd.

Kumbo was an easy going, kind, compassionate soul. He believed very much in live, and let live and was never quick to judge anyone. He came from a very large family with 10 brothers and sisters. Kumbo had many childhood stories from chasing the hogs that escaped, to collecting the eggs, and warding off chicken predators. He spoke often on the phone with his mom and siblings and always looked forward to their visits. Deer season was a special time of the year when brothers Tim and Michael would join him on the hunt, and often his good friend Vogtsie and nephews would make the trip too.

He was an avid football fan, making sure to have a weekly Husker pool for anyone that wanted to join in, and if he didn’t get the pool filled his canine best friend Spencer would always take the remaining squares. He was a solid Raiders football fan and looked forward to the weekends when friends and family would stop over to watch the games with him. Grandson John Brouillette and close friend Shane Newton were frequent visitors. John wanted to share, “To the Moon Kumbo, To the Moon.”

Kumbo loved holding his grandkids, and later on the greats. He got a kick out of them climbing up on his lap and pulling on his long beard. Kumbo looked forward to their visits and never hesitated to break out the Hi Ho Cherry O game.

Kumbo was preceded in death by his dad Eldon “Eldie” Croxen, his lifelong friend Dave “Vogtsie” Vogt and grandson Austin Jon Hiatt.

He is survived by his life partner Janice Loghry, his mom Norma Lee Croxen, siblings Kathy (David) Duesing, James (Selee) Kumm, Kelly (Layne) Pahl, Timothy (Lori) Kumm, Kay (Mike Brown) Croxen, Michael Croxen, Kim (Roger) Lemke, Krista (J.D.) Mach, Karol (William) Grimes, Lee (Kendra) Croxen. Stepkids Mitzi (Ron) Graham, Dawn (Tim Hogg) Hiatt, Connie Ekeler, Tom (Angela) Hiatt and Tim Hiatt. Grandkids Sandy, Chelsey, Bud, Leann, John, Matt, Nicole, Zack, Haley, Sidney, Riley, Noah, and numerous great grandkids, nieces, nephews and friends who he loved dearly.

There will be no visitation, as the family is honoring Kumbo’s wish for cremation. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Kumbo’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.

Omaha Nebraska-Harry Jeoffrey Deeths, Age 84, beloved husband, father and physician, died peacefully at home with his family on September 21, 2022.  Dr. Harry Jeoffrey Deeths was born in Atchison, Kansas to Dr. Harry Jefferson and Marie Deeths on August 16, 1938. He lived there with his siblings Jennifer and Tony until about the age of 12 when his family moved to the San Fernando Valley, a suburb of L.A. where his father entered into a family general practice.

He attended Catholic schools and went on to Loyola University in the L.A. area and later Creighton Medical School, following as did his dad. During this time, he met and married his wife, Lenore who was attending the College of St. Mary in Omaha. After a return to L.A. for internship and residency at L.A. County Hospital, Lisa was born at this time. He then entered into the USAF and served 4 years in Japan during the Vietnam War. Son, Matthew, arrived during that time. After a return to LA County, daughter, Maria, was born.

After much thought the family moved back to Omaha. Jeff loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing and eventually left his faculty position at Creighton St. Joseph Medical School and went into private urology practice with his dad’s classmate Dr. Maurice Steinberg and eventually formed the practice of The Urology Center with several colleagues. Later he also founded the Quality Clinical Research Center still operating in the Regency area. He served also as the president of Metro Omaha Medical Society.

Being a lover of fine wine, he was active in the International Wind and Food Society board and became the chairman of the entire International Society and as such traveled the world with his wife.

After retiring from practice, he continued to be actively involved in the Medical Society and continued to travel internationally. He also loved interacting with his family and his 10 grandchildren who were the joy of his life.

Funeral Mass will be held Friday, November 25, 2022 at 12:00PM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.  Private burial to follow at Omaha National Cemetery.
