Carmack, Mississippi – Mary N Gilbert, 95, of the Carmack community, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the Attala County Nursing Center in Kosciusko. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, and from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Hebron Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm. Sunday at the church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Leach will officiate the services.

Mrs. Gilbert was born in Cleveland, Mississippi on September 24, 1927, she was a retired merchant and cattle farmer. She was also the owner of Blue and Gold Grocery Store, and has been a member of Hebron Baptist Church since 1972.

She is survived by two sons, Tommy W. (Betty) Norrell of Brandon, MS., and Billy (Lori) Norrell of Canton, MS; sisters, Helen Linville, Vivian Mullins, and Hazel Bennett; grandchildren  Tracy Norrell Brooks, Christy Norrell, Sandy Sweet, and Amy Sipes; step-grandchildren Daniel Tuggle, Sean Pruett, Brendon Pruett, and Christian Pruett; great-grandchildren, Mason Brooks, and Sydney Sweet.

Her husband, Thomas Norrell, and son, Paul A. Norrell, preceded her in death.

— Grace H Martin, 70, a resident of Pownal, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 16, 2018 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

History

Grace H Martin was the daughter of John and Marilyn ( Gibbs) Tifft she was born in Rochester , VT on April 5, 1948. Grace received her education in Rochester and was a graduate of Bennington High School.

Vocation/Hobbies

Grace had worked at Triangle PWC and the American Legion in Pownal, Vermont. Grace was well known for her exquisite cakes that she made for many special occasions for family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, reading and the many times spent with family , especially the Christmas season which she absolutely loved. Grace will be remembered as always putting others first before herself.

Survivors

Grace leaves her longtime companion Joel Burrington Sr. of Pownal, daughters Melody Mae Gilmore of Higganum, CT and Jennifer Lynn Martin of Kila, Montana, son Richard John Martin of Hoosick Falls, brothers Michael Tifft of Clarksburg, MA and David Tifft of Georgia, VT, sisters Rebecca Gratz of Bennington, Cheryl Sharkey and Linda Hill both of Hoosick Falls. Grace also leaves seven grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition, she was predeceased by a son Joel Francis Martin and sister Dorothy Capen.

Funeral services for Grace H Martin will be held at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Saturday August 25 at noon . Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday from 10-noon. Burial will take place in the Park Lawn Cemetery. Robin Ann Horton, age 59, passed away on July 31, 2018 at her home.

Robin was born on August 14, 1958 in Schenectady, New York. She was the daughter of the late James and Ethel (Winchell)Marra.

Robin worked for many years as an LPN often doing private duty. She was an animal lover and a strong supporter of her local SPCA where she volunteered. She and her husband gave many cats and dogs forever homes throughout the years.

Robin never had children of her own but loved her many nieces and nephews. She was a kind-hearted woman who was loved by all who knew her. She also enjoyed flowers.

Survivors

Robin was predeceased by her parents, and nephews Jeremy Jones and Charlie Marra. She was also predeceased  by her husband of 32 years, Harlan who passed on July 10, 2018. Robin is also survived by her siblings: James Marra of Granville, Jane Jones (Paul) of Granville, Timothy Marra (Sue) of CT, Charles Marra (Lynn) of Granville, and Leejoy Ferguson (Charlie) of Granville. She was blessed with her nieces and nephews: James and Steven Marra, Heather Johnson, Jason Martelle, Kim Moore, James McFarren, and Crystal Bennett, in addition to many grand nieces and nephews and many friends. She also leaves behind her pets: Bubba, Baby and Trouble.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 2 PM at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville. Friends may call from Noon until the time of the service. SAN FRANCISCO, CA —

Max Harold Allen, a resident of San Francisco, and formerly of Wilmington, VT, passed away July 19, 2018 at San Francisco General Hospital. Max was born in Brattleboro, VT, on June 9, 1925. He was the son of the late Harold Griffin Allen and Helen Kenrick. Max graduated from Wilmington High School in 1943 and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1945. Furthermore, He received a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Catholic University in 1953, and a Master of Arts from George Washington University in 1966. Max was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War, retiring as a Captain.

Awards

He was awarded Legion of Merit with Combat, Meritorious Service Citation, Unit Citation American Campaign, WWII Victory Medal, National Defense Service with a Service Star, in addition to a Vietnam Service Award with Bronze Stars. Upon retirement from the Navy, Max worked as a Civil Engineer for many years.

Max Harold Allen is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Marie Allen of San Francisco, and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased in death by his wife, Mary June (Deeb) Allen and his brother, Paul Kenrick Allen.  There will be a graveside funeral with military honors for Max Allen, on Friday, August 3 at 12:00 pm in Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington, VT. POWNAL, VT —

Kate Erin Burrington, 36, a resident of Pownal, VT passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday July 17, 2018 in Ocala, Florida. She was born in North Adams, MA on April 29, 1982 daughter of Joel and Karen (Wachowski) Burrington. She grew up in Pownal where she attended Pownal Elementary; she graduated from Mt. Anthony Union High School, Class of 2000. Kate was a loving and hardworking free spirit who was an avid horse lover from a very young age. Her very first pony was named, Paco and the next addition to the horse family was Tristan, her Morgan. Tristan and Kate were inseparable.

Influences

There were many people who influenced and helped Kate in her early years with her love for horses. However, two women who helped shaped the rider she was and the person she turned out to be were Denise Film and Edie Devens. Denise Film taught Kate to ride while she was in pony club and Edie Devens was Kate’s mentor and teacher throughout her teenage years. Right after high school, Kate went to work at Saratoga Race Track as an exercise rider, for trainer Jonathan Sheppard. Mr. Sheppard asked Kate to work for him at his training facility in Camden, South Carolina which launched her career as an exercise rider and trainer.

Kate’s career took her from Camden, South Carolina to Greenwich, New York, Versailles, Kentucky and most recently, Ocala, Florida with many stops in between. Some of the amazing places Kate worked include Todd Pletcher Racing Stables, Charles Lopresti Racing, Blackwood Stables, Stonebridge Farm, Mill Creek, KatieRich Farms and eventually, Stonestreet Farms. Kate was an incredible exercise rider and had vast knowledge of race horses and their breeding lines. She was a wonderful horse woman, daughter, family member and friend. Kate touched many lives through her travels and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Survivors

Kate Erin Burrington leaves her parents Joel and Karen Burrington of Pownal, paternal grandparents Joel G. Burrington and Barbara I. Vince both of Pownal, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. Kate was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Karl and Jean Wachowski. The family will receive friends at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Thursday August 2nd from 1-3pm. A private burial will take place in Pownal. MANCHESTER, VT

— Julie Marie Wojtkowski Lawrence, 56, of Manchester, VT, died tragically on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Lowell Lake in Londonderry, VT. She drowned trying to rescue her five year old grandson, Jaxon Leo Lawrence. Jaxon passed away two days later surrounded by his family. Julie was born in Pittsfield, MA to Conrad Wojtkowski Sr. and Frances Clement on April 30, 1962. Julie graduated from Taconic High School in 1980 before continuing her education at Boston College.

Education and Work

During her junior year at Boston College, Julie joined the Army’s ROTC Program. After graduating, she enlisted in the Army, trained in nursing, making the rank of Captain. In 1988 she was honorably discharged. Julie and her first husband, Robert Rhodes, who was still in the Army, raised their family around the world. In 2002, Julie settled in Vermont and continued her nursing career at Rutland Regional Medical Center. During her time at RRMC, Julie worked as an RN in the ICU, PCU, Emergency Department, and most recently, Diagnostic Imaging. In 2014, Julie met the love of her life, Brian Lawrence, and the two married on July 11, 2015. Together, Julie and Brian enjoyed rides on their motorcycle, stopping at flea markets, visiting friends and exploring Vermont and beyond.

Activities

They took pleasure in camping with family and friends, making memories around the camp fire. Julie was a very active person and loved the outdoors. Hiking and snowshoeing with her dogs, kayaking in the summer, as well as skiing seriously fast in the winter were some of her favorite past times. Julie was always up for an adventure, never deterred by weather conditions. She was definitely tougher than most. Julie was an all-around talented person who enjoyed creating hand painted wooden crafts. Most recently, she had learned the craft of fused glass. She made beautiful jewelry, dishes, frames, in addition to night lights sharing them with family and friends. Julie Marie Lawrence was an avid baker/pie maker, filling many bellies and many hearts. For the past 16 years, Julie participated in a book club, reading every book.

A Joy to be around

A great sense of humor permeated Julie Marie Lawrence. She brought joy wherever she went and made lifelong friends around the world. Her reach was far and wide. Julie was a blessing and will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors

Julie Marie Lawrence was predeceased by her son, Gregory Joseph Rhodes, on October 28, 1994; a brother, Conrad R. Wojtkowski Jr., on November 11, 2016; her mother-in-law, Helen J. Lawrence, on June 3, 2017; and a nephew, Nicholas M. Wojtkowski, on April 13, 2018. Julie is survived by her parents, Conrad and Frances Wojtkowski; her beloved husband, Brian Lawrence; her father-in-law, Leo E. Lawrence; her children, Steven, Christopher, and Matthew Rhodes and Jacob and Brittany Lawrence; her grandchildren, Bryson, Carter, Noah, Aiden, and Ava; her siblings, Michael Wojtkowski (Debra), Lisa A. Brown (Jeffrey), Victoria W. Johnson (Chris); her nieces, Michelle Bartels (Alex), Audrey Wojtkowski, Freja Wojtkowski; nephews, Corey Bassett, Adrien Wojtkowski (Julia), Odin and Wrex Wojtkowski awa well as great nieces, Madelyn Bartels and Sydney Wojtkowski.

Celebration

A celebration of Julie’s life took place Saturday July 28, 2018 at 2pm at Brewster-Shea Funeral Home 34 Park Place Manchester Center, VT. HEBRON NY – On July 9, 2018, Lois E Nelson went to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior after a short illness. Born July 30, 1925, the daughter of Earl Hopkins and Edith (Rogers) Wilson of East Hebron, NY. She was a graduate of Salem Academy. On March 29, 1945, she married George Woodard Nelson and spent her life working with George on the family farm where she raised 3 children.

Lois was a social and fun-loving lady who was always involved in various phases of her faith-filled life. She was an active member of the East Hebron Presbyterian Church, the United Church of West Pawlet and most recently, South Granville Congregational Church. She was always willing to lend a hand and more importantly, her heart. She also taught Sunday School.

Her active life and enjoyments were gardening, pottery, cards and board games; Monday, Tuesday and Saturday night cards and the Wednesday dominos and Thursday bible study. She also bowled for many years in the Friday Morning Coffee and Donut League.

Her civic activities included serving on the Hebron election board and the historical society

She and George were active members of the Adirondack Fiddlers for many years.

Lois was predeceased by her parents, husband George W. Nelson, brother Lionel Wilson and Sisters, Mabel Washburn, Mary Adams, Georgia Greeno, Violet Wilson and great granddaughter Meredith Kerber

Survivors

Left to cherish the memory of Lois E Nelson are her children: James (Kathy) Nelson, Pam (Rick) Butler and Daniel (Amy) Nelson. She was blessed with her 12 grandchildren: Mark and Peter Nelson Jennifer Zerbe, Adam, Nathan and Seth Butler, Amy Kerber and Danica Nelson, Nolan, Ethan and Brady Mack, little Roxy and 36 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services

A Memorial service was held on Thursday, July 12th at the South Granville Congregational Church at 2:30 pm. Friends called from 1 pm until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Haynes House of Hope, 7187 SR 149, Granville, NY.
