Hoosick Falls, NY – James E Hunt, 92, died peacefully at his home in West Hoosick, NY on Thursday, November 21, 2024. James (Jim) was born on September 8, 1932 in Pittstown, NY to the late Edgar and Julia (Dick) Hunt. He married his beloved wife Rita (Cuddihy) Hunt on December 12, 1953 and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with friends and family last year.
Jim graduated from Hoosick Falls High School with the class of 1950. He worked at Wood Flong, multiple garages, and worked as a self employed mechanic for many years.
Outside of his career, Jim was a charter member of the West Hoosick Fire Department and volunteered for over 65 years, including positions on the Board of Directors, Chief of the fire department, and Captain of Fire Police. He was also a lifetime member of the Rensselaer County Fire Chief’s Association, and a member of the Rensselaer County Fire Advisory Board.
Jim always enjoyed county fairs, where he would be seen listening to the fiddlers or at the grandstands for the tractor pulls. His hobbies included genealogy, boating, camping, and yearly trips with his family to Chincoteague, VA.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his sister, Mableanna Hendry. Survivors include his wife Rita, his brother Robert of North Hoosick, NY, daughters Kathy Rousseau of Hoosick Falls, NY, Karen (Leo) McGuire of Hoosick Falls, NY, and Kim (Tony) Ciuk of West Hoosick, NY. He leaves behind his grandchildren Adrienne, Luc (Jessica), and Marc (Christina) Rousseau, Lisa, Brad (Becky) and Jared McGuire, Emily (Christian) Erk and David Ciuk.
He also leaves behind great grandchildren Emma, Ayla, Evelyn, Ben, Elliot, Beckett, Lilly, Dylan, Chloey, Graham, Milo, Grady, Carson, Kenna, and Andrew, along with cousins, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Monday, November 25th from 4-6 pm at the Mahar Funeral Home 43 Main Street, in Hoosick Falls, NY. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 26th at at 11 am from the Mahar Funeral Home. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
