Dennis F Dodge

Bangor, ME – Dennis F Dodge, 79, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor, Maine.

Dennis was born on November 9, 1943 in Presque Isle, Maine and was the youngest of 5 five children to the late Almon (Chip) and Elizabeth McNamara Dodge. He enjoyed a carefree childhood growing up in Easton with his siblings and friends. He graduated from Easton High School in 1963 and following graduation he served in the Army for two years as a medical specialist at Brooks Medical Center. Upon his return home to Easton, he married his wife, Carolyn Flewelling and they moved to Bangor.

Dennis attended the St. Joseph Hospital School of Radiologic Technology and soon became the Chief Technologist of Nuclear Medicine before later becoming the Administrator of the Radiology Department. He left to work at Maine X-Ray for one year, before ultimately returning to St. Joseph Hospital as the Practice Manager for Bangor Internal Medicine Associates, while also overseeing the ACI Emergency Response phone system. In 2009, after 39 years of service at St. Joseph Hospital, he retired.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn; his two sons Tyler (wife Casey) of Columbia, Missouri and Randy (partner June Toole) of Bangor, Maine; his granddaughters Kelsey and Kaitlyn Dodge; sister Janice Conley; sisters-in-law Gloria Dodge and Joan Flewelling; and brother-in-law Gerald Flewelling.

Dennis’ pride and joy were his two sons. He was an active parent from preparing the ice for ice hockey, coaching baseball and basketball, to an avid parent in the stands or on the golf course.

When his granddaughters visited from Vermont, there was a permanent grin on his face; he was the happiest Grampy. He always made sure to have the hot tub ready (no matter the weather) when they came to visit. He loved taking the girls on countless motorcycle rides around Bangor, on snowmobiling adventures in Easton, but his favorite was when he would drive the tractor around the neighborhood with the girls in the red trailer.

Dennis was able to make his friends and family smile and laugh; he had a joke for every occasion. He is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor.

A service will be held for friends and family on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 1:00 PM in the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith (45 Western Avenue, Hampden, Maine). Please share any memories and/or condolences to the family at Brookings-Smith.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish to remember Dennis in a special way, make a donation to either St. Joseph Healthcare Foundation (PO Box 1638, Bangor, ME 04402-1638) or Maine Veterans’ Homes (460 Civic Center Drive, Augusta, ME 04330) in his name.
