Arthur J Brown

Washington, DC – Arthur J Brown. Born and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn NY. Arthur was the eldest child of John J. and Mary Dorff Brown.

Art attended St. Francis Prep HS, Brooklyn NY, The RCA Institute and then received two degrees from the University of Dayton, Ohio. He was also a proud Marine.

Arthur is survived by siblings, John (Jack) and Mary Theresa Singer. He is predeceased by his parents and brother James. Arthur is also survived by caring nephew, Richard (Laura) and their four children as well as nieces and their families. Art was also blessed to reach an advanced age having several loyal friends.

Arthur lived an adventurous life working in the field of Polar Exploration with both ITT and the National Science Foundation. He traveled for extended periods of time to places at the far ends of the earth: Point Barrow Alaska, Thule Greenland, Christ Church New Zealand and McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Work for him was not “just a job”. He loved his career and only finally retired at age 82! In 2019, Art was granted Honorary Citizenship of Christ Church, New Zealand. This rare distinction was presented to him in a ceremony in Washington DC by the ambassador of New Zealand as well as representatives of the city of Christ Church. Arthur was so proud to receive this honor.

Art will be the fourth generation to be laid to rest in the Dorff family plot purchased in 1884 by his great grandfather at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill NY. As per his wishes, there is no wake. A Catholic funeral mass will be conducted at St. Paul’s RC Church in Congers NY. Official dates for services will be forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to Tunnel to Towers or Wounded Warriors would be appreciated.
