Boynton Beach, FL – It is with great sadness that the family of Arnold Fassman announces his passing on Monday, November 18, 2019, at the age of 84. Born May 10, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY, He was the son of Isaac and Dora Fassman.
Arnold attended Thomas Jefferson High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering by going to night school. He earned numerous patents for devices and games he invented, and married Lillian Fassman in Brooklyn, NY, on November 22, 1959.
Arnold served in the Army in Korea before starting his 35-year career at Pitney-Bowes in Stamford, Connecticut. He started as a draftsman and eventually became a manager. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering by attending night school, which was no small feat with a full-time job and little children at home. He was a proud inventor and patent holder of numerous devices. Always tinkering in his workroom, he invented a popular gadget called The Domino Dealer and a variety of other games.
He loved art, history, inventing, and baseball. When he talked about the good old days of his childhood, his face would light up and he would share stories of spending hours with his friends at the pool hall, getting egg creams, and going to a double feature for just 10 cents. He loved to tell the story of the day he went for his Army recruitment physical, expecting to return home for dinner, and was whisked off to basic training while his mother still had a chicken dinner waiting for him. Residing in Westport, Connecticut, for 50 years, he often took trips to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where he took photographs of storefronts with Hebrew writing. He would paint Edward Hopper-esque works of art based on those photos that focused on lighting and shadows, and captured his ethnic heritage. Some of his greatest pleasures included spending time with his three grandchildren and sharing funny stories about his life. For the last four years of his life he enjoyed the lake view from the kitchen of their house in Florida, where he lived close to a number of family members and friends.
Arnold will be lovingly remembered by Lillian, his wife of 60 years, his sister Roslyn Dressler (Martin), and his children Dawn (Dan), Lori (David), and Kenneth (Katherine). He will also be fondly remembered by his three grandchildren, Anastasia, Max, and Olivia. He was predeceased by his brother Solomon (Janet).
Graveside service and burial at New Montefiore Cemetery, Sunday, November 24, 2019, 1pm.
