Antonio Chaves

Taunton, Ma – Antonio “Tony” Chaves, of Taunton, formerly of East Bridgewater passed away April 9th, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford from a chronic disease with complications related to the Coronavirus.

He was born July 23, 1958 in Santo Espirito, Santa Maria, Açores to the late Antonio P. & Angelina Felix Chaves.

At 1 1/2  years old, Tony & his family moved to America to make a new home. They were joined on the Pan Am flight by other families from the Açores exactly 60 years ago, to the day, of Tony’s death.

Tony grew up in E. Bridgewater and graduated  in 1976 from the East Bridgewater High School . He worked at the Shaw’s Warehouse for 25 years before getting his trucking CDL license & driving for a local cement company.

He was employed by the Town of Duxbury; in the water department, then as a crematory technician where he took a lot of pride in the respect that he showed the departed.

After Tony married in 1993 & started a family, he always looked forward to their yearly camping trips. He also coached softball, enjoyed woodworking, reading & crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his wife, Jean (Graham) Chaves  of Dartmouth, formerly of East Bridgewater and Norwood; their daughter Ericka Chaves of Dartmouth & son Devyn Chaves of Raynham. He is survived by his brother Joseph Chaves & his wife Debra of Hanson, his sister Mary (Chaves) Sousa & her husband Albertino of Hudson, & his brother John Chaves & his wife Lina of Bridgewater. Tony is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.

Cremation services will be handled by Casper Funeral Home. There will be no services scheduled at this time.
